Raffensperger to Serve as Center for Politics Scholar for 2024-2025 Academic Year

Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger (R) is joining the Center for Politics at the University of Virginia as a Center Scholar for the 2024-2025 academic year. Raffensperger joins eight other Center scholars for this academic year, who will teach and mentor students; offer timely analysis of political events; host unique student workshops; and assist Center for Politics faculty and staff in developing and presenting timely and topical public programming throughout the fall and spring semesters.

Raffensperger, elected as Georgia’s 29th secretary of state in 2018 and reelected in 2022, defended the integrity of Georgia’s presidential vote count against spurious claims of fraud brought by former President Donald Trump and other members of his party.

“Brad Raffensperger is the epitome of a ‘profile in courage,’ as he stood up to members of his own party to do his job in 2020. He has a lot of wisdom to impart to our students and to the broader UVA community, and we are delighted that he is joining us as a scholar for this academic year,” said Larry J. Sabato, director of the Center for Politics.

Raffensperger previously participated in the Center’s 25th anniversary celebration back in April, headlining a panel on AI and other challenges in administering the upcoming 2024 election. That panel is available for viewing on our Center YouTube channel, UVACFP. For more on Raffensperger, see his official bio here.
