Center for Politics to Host Switzerland’s Ambassador at Public Event

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA) —  On Wednesday, Nov. 1, the University of Virginia Center for Politics’ Global Perspectives on Democracy program and UVA European Studies Program will host an Ambassador Series event with His Excellency Jacques Pitteloud, Ambassador of Switzerland to the United States.

Ambassador Pitteloud will speak on the relationship between Switzerland and the U.S. and the latest issues impacting the country and region. Following the Ambassador’s speech, he will participate in audience Q&A. UVA Center for Politics Director of Global Initiatives Daman Irby will introduce the Ambassador. This event is part of Global Week at UVA.

This event will be held in-person from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. in the Rotunda Dome Room. Those who would like to attend may register through Eventbrite via this link. Ambassador Pitteloud will participate in additional meetings at the UVA School of Engineering and CvilleBioHub. His visit to the university is in conjunction with the Office of Business Development at UVA Northern Virginia.

His Excellency Jacques Pitteloud presented his credentials as Ambassador to the U.S. in September 2019. He previously served as the Director General of Switzerland’s Federal Department of Foreign Affairs; Ambassador to Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Somalia and the Seychelles; and served in other Swiss Foreign Service roles going back to 1987.

This Ambassador Series event is coordinated by the UVA Center for Politics’ Global Perspectives on Democracy (GPD) program, which fosters dialogue between the United States and other countries through public events and international exchanges. Ambassador Pitteloud is the 37th ambassador to participate in this series.
