Center for Politics Marks Anniversary of Jan. 6 with Virtual Conference Featuring Liz Cheney, Tim Kaine, Mary Trump, and More

(CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.) – On Thursday, Jan. 6, the first anniversary of the storming of the U.S. Capitol, the University of Virginia Center for Politics will hold a virtual conference, “The Shock of January 6.”

The virtual event will be streaming at from 6 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. eastern. UVA Center for Politics Director Larry J. Sabato will moderate the conference live from the UVA Rotunda Dome Room, and it will feature an array of top lawmakers, journalists, and analysts. Scheduled speakers are:

  • U.S. Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA)
  • U.S. Rep. Liz Cheney (R, WY-AL)
  • Jonathan Karl of ABC News
  • Jim Acosta of CNN
  • Author Mary Trump
  • New York Times columnist and Center for Politics resident scholar Jamelle Bouie
  • Commentator and Center for Politics resident scholar Tara Setmayer
  • Former United States Director of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency and current Center for Politics resident scholar Chris Krebs
  • Renew America Movement co-founder Miles Taylor
  • Project Home Fire’s Larry Schack and Mick McWilliams
